Black Ivy is frequently praised for its beautiful decor and spacious, well-equipped rooms, some offering wonderful park views. The hotel's bar and restaurant areas are considered very attractive, and the Scottish breakfast is a highlight for many. While some guests have occasionally noticed noise from the bar, the hotel's location within walking distance of Edinburgh centre through a lovely park, combined with its overall quality, makes it a popular choice.

the staff were amazing! the food was great, and i found the hotel to be very relaxed and not formal. the room was lovely, but it had a massive draft from the window. i really enjoyed cocktails in the bar and outside too.
my room was very cramped and hot. the temperature control was non-intuitive, and the sliding sash window was hard to access and open. the view from my window was an ugly air handling unit and it was noisy!!! there was also hair from a previous occupant in the shower.

The room had a beautiful interior. The bathroom included creams and shampoos that smelled great. (I especially liked the shampoo!)
The hotel is built on top of a bar. I could hear loud music every day from 8 AM to 2 AM. I could literally hear the bass under the bed.

I found the dog bed and bowls ready in the room. This was a thoughtful touch. The suite offered plenty of space for everyone, and the quiet outside terrace was much appreciated.. kettle, tea, and coffee in the room also hit the spot.
